dimedis presents visitor information system kompas info

Cologne, 7th of April 2011

On the 16th of March 2011, a new shopping centre, the "Schlosshöfe", has opened up in Oldenburg city. The centre, which was planned and built by ECE, offers about 12,500 sqm of sales floor for 90 shops, a market hall and several service providers and culinary establishments. The "Schlosshöfe" is also host to a product developed by dimedis: The visitor information system kompas info.

kompas info is based on the award-winning digital signage solution kompas, once again proving its flexibility and adaptability to a wide range of applications. The focus of kompas info lies on interactive information terminals, allowing visitors of the shopping centre to browse the available shops and get directions to their desired destination.

Interaction with the kompas info terminals happens using a touchscreen. What makes kompas info special is the LogoCloud, specifially designed by dimedis for this project. The LogoCloud displays icons representing each shop of the centre in form of an an animated cloud. Visitors can touch any logo, at which point the rest of the cloud dims out and the shortest route to the selected shop is displayed in form of an animated line.

Each kompas info terminal calculates the route depending on its own position and the direction in which it is facing. This means that individual terminals can be freely moved around the shopping centre and be placed at any desired location.

As an alternative to the LogoCloud, visitors can also enter search terms using an on-screen keyboard. The search not only supports the names of shops and brands, but also offers keywords that can be freely attributed to any shop. For instance, people looking for "biscuits" will get a list of all bakerys in the centre; someone searching for "vacations" will be shown the route to the next travel agent and so forth.

The kompas info system is constantly learning. When users search for terms that are not yet contained in the database, kompas info evaluates these terms and adds them to its repertoire in no time. This turns the system into an important source of information for it's operators: What are customers searching for? Which are the most popular shops and products? kompas info not only assists visitors in finding the right shop easier and more quickly – it is also a valuable tool for marketing and customer management purposes.

dimedis looks back on more than ten years of experience with visitor information systems. kompas info with its unique visitor interaction and guidance is a highly flexible product that can quickly be fitted to any kind of building and floor plans. Changes in sales floor layout, the location of shops and such can be implemented quickly and easily.

kompas at the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf

Cologne, 20.08.2010

The University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) relies on kompas for the tasks of directional guidance and visitor information. A special feature of the project is the operation of a huge LED wall through kompas.

Several kompas displays have been placed at key points on the grounds; aiding visitors as well as patients with directional guidance. Furthermore, additional displays in the area of the canteen and the library provide students with up-to-date information such as the daily menu or new book arrivals.

What makes this project special, though, is the use of a large LED wall about ten square metres in size. Placed in the area outside the front entrance, the wall displays the medical centre's logo as well as additional bits of information. Just as any other display on the site, it is controlled effortlessly by kompas.

The UKE project not only demonstrates the qualities of kompas as a guidance and informational system in general, but specifically stresses the flexibility our software offers when dealing with all different kinds of display formats.

VISCOM: dimedis presents new kompas features

Cologne, 11.08.2010

dimedis will present the newest incarnation of kompas, its digital signage solution, at VISCOM 2010. The main focus of the presentation will lie on the kompas Interactive Pack, the multi monitor application kompas Hydra and the use of kompas as a dynamic guidance system.

kompas is one of the most powerful and flexible digital signage systems on the market. It combines maximum stability with cost-efficient mobile technology and offers solutions for a vast number of different applications. Extensive information about kompas can be found on the product homepage www.kompas-software.com.

The kompas Interactive Pack offers numerous ways of interacting with a kompas display. Players can be controlled via keyboard, touchscreen or using a multitude of other input devices like barcode scanners, remote controls or mobile phones, making the screen react to input dynamically.
This allows users to quickly choose between different playlists, access further information about products using a barcode scanner or participate in raffles and surveys via text message while the results are displayed in real time on the screen.
Furthermore, the Interactive Pack grants access to external devices like shelf lighting – attached to the player using one of various interfaces – directly through kompas.

With kompas Hydra, content can be run perfectly synchronous on any number of kompas players. This makes it possible to show specially tailored bits of content on more than one display – such as objects moving from left to right, passing multiple screens in the process. Of course, Hydra can also be used to simply play identical content at the exact same time several displays.

kompas can also be utilised as a versatile dynamic guidance system. For instance, a kompas display can show visitors of a trade fair their current position on the fair grounds as well as the shortest route to their target hall or stand. Choosing a destination can once again happen using various means of input – for instance via touchscreen, or maybe by scanning an invitation to a stand party.
There is no need to manage the specific directions, hall signs etc. individually for each display. Since every kompas player "knows" its position on the grounds, the correct data for each single display is automatically retrieved from the database and displayed accordingly.

VISCOM 2010 will take place from November 4th to 6th in Frankfurt. Interested parties can find dimedis at stand H11 in hall 3.0, where we are looking forward to telling you all about kompas. Appointments can be made in advance via phone or e-mail: Simply call +49 (0)221 – 9212600 or write us using our contact form.
